Background & Job Description
GreenCape is a not-for-profit organisation that supports the growth of South Africa’s green economy – one that is low-carbon, resource-efficient, and inclusive. Its mission is to help remove barriers for businesses and investors in the green technology space while accelerating sustainable development across sub-Saharan Africa.
As part of its vision for the next five years, GreenCape aims to catalyse R45 billion in green infrastructure investments and create 15,000 new jobs. To achieve this, the organisation is now inviting applications for its Graduate Trainee Programme 2025, designed to develop the next generation of green economy practitioners.
Trainees will be placed in specific sectors such as Water, Energy, Sustainable Agriculture, Green Finance, Circular Economy, and Communications. Each placement is tailored to the trainee’s academic background and interests.

Tasks
Graduate trainees will:
- Support key sector programmes and contribute to project deliverables.
- Work with stakeholders, partners, and teams across the green economy.
- Gain hands-on exposure to impactful projects that unlock investments and job creation.
- Develop technical expertise in chosen fields through mentorship from industry experts.
- Participate in a dynamic workplace guided by values of ambition, integrity, empathy, and pragmatism.
Qualifications GreenCape Graduate Trainee Programme – 2025 Call for Applications
Education and Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields (Engineering, Economics, Finance, Environmental Sciences, Agriculture, Communications, etc.).
- Postgraduate degree preferred, with a Master’s degree being an added advantage.
Experience and Skills
- No prior work experience required.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Excel.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work independently with attention to detail.
- Interest in contributing to South Africa’s green economy.
Advantageous:
- Postgraduate research, volunteer experience, or publications related to the green economy.
- Stakeholder engagement or networking experience.
Additional Information
- Location: Cape Town (with willingness to travel).
- Start Date: January 2026 (exact date TBC).
- Contract Term: 12 months, fixed-term.
- Remuneration: Competitive salary with a contribution toward medical aid benefits.
