Background & Job Description

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is looking for a Graphic and Web Design Intern to join its Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) in New York. This bureau is tasked with positioning UNDP as a leader in global development, driving campaigns and projects that promote sustainable development, climate action, and poverty reduction. The UNDP relies on creative communication to advance these goals, and the Graphic and Web Design Internship provides a unique opportunity to contribute to these efforts.

As part of the Brand and Marketing Team, which leads external communications, digital marketing, and global storytelling, you will support projects related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Tasks

As a Graphic and Web Design Intern, your responsibilities will include:

  • Creative Contributions: Contribute ideas to the design team for engaging visuals that convey complex messages about sustainable development and global partnerships.
  • Design Production: Conceptualize and create marketing products for different ongoing projects, ensuring that the designs align with UNDP’s visual identity and tone.
  • Support for Web Design Projects: Assist in creating wireframes, prototypes, and final web design elements using tools like Figma or Adobe XD.
  • Print Design Support: Help design brochures, reports, and presentation slides, ensuring clarity and alignment with UNDP’s branding guidelines.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work alongside the Marketing Services Hub (MSH) to deliver on various graphic and web design projects, including designing for internal and external campaigns.
  • Branding and Marketing Coordination: Ensure that all designs reflect the values and visual standards of the UNDP brand, contributing to effective communication with diverse audiences.

This is a hands-on role that will allow you to build your portfolio with real-world projects, contributing directly to UNDP’s communication efforts.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

To be eligible for the Graphic and Web Design Internship at the UNDP, you must meet the following educational requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field.
  • Applicants must meet at least one of the following conditions:
    • Currently enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
    • In the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level).
    • Graduated within the past year with a relevant degree.

Experience

The ideal candidate for this internship should have:

  • Proven experience in graphic design or communication design, ideally with a strong portfolio (please provide a link to your portfolio).
  • Hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) for designing both print and digital assets.
  • Familiarity with web design tools like Figma, Adobe XD, or similar software for creating wireframes and prototypes.
  • Motion graphics experience is a plus, but not a requirement.
  • Knowledge of brand principles and marketing communications is advantageous.

Skills

  • Visual Communication: Ability to translate complex ideas into simple visual infographics, layouts, and compelling designs.
  • Strong Organizational Skills: Capable of handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.

Additional Information

  • Location: The position is based in New York, United States.
  • Internship Duration: The internship requires a minimum commitment of three days per week. Full-time (five days per week) availability is preferred.
  • Stipend: While the internship is unpaid, UNDP provides a monthly stipend to cover basic living expenses in accordance with the UNDP Internship policy.
