Background & Job Description

Global Rights Compliance (GRC) is a prominent international human rights law foundation that has been operational since 2013. GRC specializes in international humanitarian law, international criminal law, and business human rights. The foundation operates globally, particularly in high-risk, conflict-affected areas, with over 45 countries benefiting from their services. Their main office is situated in Kyiv, Ukraine, where they focus on providing expert legal support for investigating and prosecuting international crimes.

As part of their mission to provide justice, GRC works through special Mobile Justice Teams (MJTs) that assist Ukrainian law enforcement agencies in investigating and prosecuting international crimes. These expert teams are made up of legal specialists who collaborate closely with investigators and prosecutors, providing crucial advice and operational assistance to the Ukraine’s Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) in their fight against atrocity crimes.

With the growing need for legal expertise in human rights and business law, GRC is expanding its operations in Pakistan and is looking to hire Business & Human Rights Experts. This role requires professionals with extensive legal experience who can provide strategic advice, assist in international investigations, and support the documentation, investigation, and prosecution of human rights violations within the business sector.

Tasks

As a Business & Human Rights Expert at Global Rights Compliance in Pakistan, your role will involve several key responsibilities, including:

  1. Legal Expertise and Advisory Support: You will use your knowledge of business law and human rights to provide expert legal guidance on cases involving corporate responsibility in conflict zones, focusing on ensuring human rights compliance within business operations.
  2. Supporting Investigations and Prosecutions: Working closely with national prosecuting agencies, you will assist in documenting human rights abuses related to business activities, helping in the investigation and prosecution of international crimes.
  3. Collaboration with Local Authorities: You will collaborate with local law enforcement agencies and legal professionals in Pakistan, providing critical advice and operational support to national prosecutors in the investigation of business-related human rights violations.
  4. Project Coordination: The role will involve working on a variety of innovative projects within Pakistan, expanding GRC’s presence and impact. You will be part of a diverse team that contributes to the development of new initiatives and strategic approaches to business and human rights issues.
  5. Capacity Building and Training: You will participate in training and capacity-building activities to enhance the understanding of human rights law within Pakistan’s legal system, empowering local authorities and stakeholders to combat business-related human rights abuses more effectively.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • Law Degree: You must hold a law degree (LLB, JD, or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • Specialized Training: Certifications or additional training in human rights law, international law, or business law will be considered a significant advantage.
  • Fluency in English and Urdu: Strong command of both English and Urdu is required, as the role involves dealing with local stakeholders, documentation, and communication with international teams.

Experience

  • Expertise in Business & Human Rights: Proven experience and demonstrable expertise in the intersection of business practices and human rights law are essential. You should have a clear understanding of the legal frameworks surrounding business and human rights, particularly in conflict zones.
  • Experience in Legal Advocacy: Previous experience working in legal advocacy, law enforcement, or as a legal advisor in human rights law or international law is necessary. Exposure to business law and corporate accountability in human rights contexts will be highly valued.
  • Familiarity with International Criminal Law: Understanding international humanitarian law, criminal law, and human rights law, especially in the context of business operations in high-risk regions, is crucial for this position.
  • Experience in Conflict-Affected Areas: Experience working in conflict zones or high-risk areas, particularly those involving human rights violations related to business practices, will provide an edge in this role.

  • Location: This position is based in Pakistan. Candidates must be Pakistani nationals and reside in Pakistan. Fluency in both Urdu and English is a must.
