Are you a young graduate curious about the inner workings of diplomacy and international relations? The European Union (EU) Delegation to the African Union is offering a funded traineeship in its Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section. This opportunity is specifically tailored for early-career professionals residing in Ethiopia who hold a Master’s degree and are eager to gain experience within the EU’s diplomatic mission.

Set to begin on 2 May 2025, the traineeship lasts up to six months and places selected candidates at the heart of EU-AU relations. Trainees will assist in strategic communications, political research, and event coordination leading up to the 2025 EU-AU Ministerial Conference and subsequent Summit.

Tasks

Trainees will support the PPI Section with the following responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparatory work for major EU-AU events including the 2025 Ministerial Conference and Summit.
  • Draft press releases, project fiches, and other communication materials.
  • Help organize public diplomacy events and contribute to strategic communication campaigns.
  • Undertake policy and cooperation-related research, especially on topics such as mobility, migration, economic integration, youth, the G20, and multilateral relations.
  • Attend high-level meetings and draft minutes or summaries.
  • Support the drafting of internal documents, reports, and speeches.
  • Provide occasional assistance to the Policy and Cooperation Section on relevant files.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

To qualify for this funded traineeship, applicants must meet the following academic and geographic criteria:

  • Be currently residing in Ethiopia.
  • Hold a Master’s degree in political science, international relations, economics, law, or other social studies fields.

Experience

  • Maximum of 1 year of professional work experience.
  • Demonstrated interest in African Union politics, economics, and governance.
  • Proficiency in English with excellent analytical and drafting skills.
  • A proactive attitude, openness to learning, and strong sense of initiative.
