Background & Job Description

The Fulbright South African Research Scholar Program (SARSP) offers fully funded research placements for experienced South African academics at top U.S. institutions. Designed to boost research capacity, strengthen academic programs back home, and build lasting scholarly partnerships, the program covers a research period of 3 to 9 months.

Tasks

• Conduct independent, high-level research at a U.S. host institution
• Contribute to your academic discipline with innovative findings
• Strengthen curriculum and institutional capacity upon return to South Africa
• Participate in academic and professional events and exchanges

Qualifications

Education and Certification

• Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree by the application deadline
• At least three years of university-level teaching experience

Experience

• Strong academic research and publication record
• Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident (5+ years)
• Fluent in English (TOEFL not required but may be tested by U.S. Embassy)
• Ineligible if you have dual U.S./SA citizenship or are doing post-doc or dissertation research
