The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) are globally recognized non-profit science institutions dedicated to research, knowledge-building, and policy development in forestry and agroforestry. CIFOR-ICRAF is launching a General Call for Applications – Consultant Roster to build a pool of highly skilled experts who can contribute to various projects and research initiatives. This call aims to identify qualified consultants in multiple specializations who can support CIFOR-ICRAF’s mission by applying their expertise to pressing environmental and socio-economic challenges.

Tasks & Responsibilities
Consultants selected for the roster will contribute to diverse projects depending on their specialization. Their key responsibilities may include:
Research & Policy Analysis
- Conduct research on critical topics such as environmental economics, governance, forest law enforcement, climate change, and land tenure reforms.
- Analyze policies and provide recommendations for sustainable natural resource management.
- Assess and interpret economic and social trends affecting forestry, agroforestry, and climate resilience.
Data Collection & Scientific Analysis
- Collect and analyze data related to biomass, biometrics, carbon measurement, soil science, and landscape ecology.
- Evaluate the impact of environmental policies on different ecosystems.
- Utilize innovative methodologies to study human demographics, epidemiology, and nutrition trends.
Capacity Building & Knowledge Sharing
- Develop training materials, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions for local communities, policymakers, and organizations.
- Engage in science communication and outreach through reports, presentations, and publications.
- Support digital and multimedia communication strategies to enhance research visibility.
Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy
- Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, research institutions, and private sector partners to advance sustainable forestry and agroforestry initiatives.
- Provide technical assistance and advisory services to policymakers and international organizations.
- Support gender-inclusive approaches and social equity in environmental governance.
Project Management & Implementation
- Design and implement project frameworks in alignment with CIFOR-ICRAF’s strategic goals.
- Monitor and evaluate project outcomes, ensuring alignment with sustainability targets.
- Prepare funding proposals and contribute to donor engagement efforts.

Qualifications & Experience
Education & Professional Background
- A relevant degree (Master’s or higher preferred) in environmental science, forestry, agroforestry, economics, social sciences, law, or related fields.
- Specialization in one or more of the following areas:
- Environmental Economics/Value Chains
- Financial Governance
- Forest Law Enforcement, Governance, and Trade (FLEGT)
- Land and Forest Tenure Reforms
- Macroeconomics
- Biomass and Biometrics
- Carbon and Greenhouse Gas Measurement
- Human Demography and Epidemiology
- Nutrition
- Landscape Ecology and Silviculture
- Soil Science
- Environmental History
- Gender Studies
- Information and Communications
- Legal Expertise in International Transactions and Intellectual Property
- Support Functions: HR, Finance, Accounting, IT, Administration
Technical Skills & Competencies
- Proven experience in policy research, data analysis, and project implementation.
- Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to produce reports, policy briefs, and scientific publications.
- Familiarity with digital tools, GIS mapping, and data visualization techniques.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in additional international languages is an advantage.
Additional Information
Work Arrangement & Duty Stations
- Consultants will be engaged on an as-needed basis, depending on project requirements.
- Assignments may be conducted remotely or at CIFOR-ICRAF duty stations worldwide.
