Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Head of Communications, the Communications Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) in its communications and advocacy work. The intern will:
- Engage in UN Communication and Advocacy Initiatives:
- Actively participate in UN communication campaigns and advocacy projects.
- Support the development and implementation of social media campaigns for key office events or international days.
- Support Social Media Management:
- Assist in creating a weekly social media calendar and drafting posts for UN China’s social media platforms in both Chinese and English.
- Provide inputs and updates for the UN China website and other communication products.
- Content Creation:
- Help in creating and recording videos, podcasts, articles, and social media posts.
- Assist in the development, translation, and editing of various communications materials, including op-eds, press releases, speeches, and other related content in both English and Chinese.
- Facilitate On-Site Communications Activities:
- Support the setup for communications activities such as podcast recordings, press conferences, and video shoots.
- Coordination and Administrative Support:
- Aid in coordinating inter-agency and high-level meetings or events organized by the UN Communications Group.
- Handle daily administrative and logistical tasks related to communications work.
- Ad Hoc Tasks:
- Complete other tasks as requested by the office or supervisor, ensuring the smooth operation of communication activities.
Qualifications and Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements:
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Additional qualifications include:
- Fluency in spoken and written English and Chinese is required.
- Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an advantage.
- Applicants should be computer literate in standard software applications and have a keen interest in the UN’s mission and work.
