The International Organization for Migration (IOM) invites applications for the position of Intern – Programme Support Unit. This role will be based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. As an Intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to IOM’s mission of promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all.

Exciting Homebased Internship: Programme Support Unit Intern Position
Supervision:
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the Project Development and Reporting Officer (PDRO), the Intern – Programme Support Unit will work in coordination with relevant units within the Mission, Country Office with Coordination Function (COCF) Canberra, and the Regional Thematic Specialist (RTS) in the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP).
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development of mission resource mobilization strategies.
- Support the development of country office strategic plans aligned with IOM’s global and regional strategies.
- Liaise with IOM Regional Office in Bangkok, IOM Headquarters in Geneva, and other IOM missions to ensure timely project submissions.
- Provide project support functions such as development, reporting, donor relations, and information management.
- Assist in drafting donor reports and coordinating Mission’s inputs to various reporting processes.
- Support project development through coordination with relevant departments.
- Manage knowledge by maintaining Mission’s PSU SharePoint and sharing relevant information across Mission Units.
- Undertake other tasks as assigned based on relevant experience and academic background.
Training Components and Learning Elements:
As an Intern at IOM, you will:
- Gain knowledge in IOM’s areas of intervention and working within the UN system.
- Understand IOM and UN systems and develop skills in project development and reporting processes.
- Acquire technical knowledge in resource mobilization, policy, and strategy development.
- Access online training courses available to all IOM staff.
- Interact with IOM staff within the Regional Office and Headquarters.
- Gain practical experience in a dynamic international environment.

Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
- Master’s degree in international development, international relations, or a related social science field from an accredited academic institution/university or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience:
- Field experience in migration or development fields is advantageous.
- Experience in project development, reporting, government and donor liaison, and working in a multicultural setting is beneficial.
Skills:
- Confirmed interest in migration issues.
- Knowledge of recent global migration trends and developments in the Pacific region.
- Good insight into humanitarian and development debates and coordination frameworks.
- Attention to detail, ability to organize paperwork methodically.
- Maintain confidentiality, patience, and willingness to learn.
- Plan and coordinate effectively to meet deadlines and commitments.
- Work independently and within a team.
- Work respectfully and flexibly with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent research, writing, and organizational ability.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Advanced English writing, communication, and negotiation skills.
Languages:
- Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
- Working knowledge of another official UN language is advantageous.
