Tasks
Project managers and coordinators within UNU will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to:
- Project Planning & Design: Develop strategic project plans, including defining goals, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and resource allocation.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Work collaboratively with UN agencies, government bodies, academic institutions, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to ensure project alignment and efficiency.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Track project progress, analyze data, and prepare comprehensive reports to assess impact and effectiveness.

Global Project Management Careers at UNU
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in international relations, public policy, business administration, sustainable development, project management, or a related field.
- A Master’s degree is preferred, particularly for senior project management roles.
- Professional certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP), PRINCE2, or Agile PM are highly desirable.
Experience
- For entry-level roles, at least two years of experience in project coordination, program implementation, or research within an international organization, government agency, or academic institution.
- Mid-level positions require five or more years of experience in project management, grant administration, or policy development.
- Senior roles demand ten or more years of leadership experience in managing international projects, partnerships, and large-scale development programs.
- Previous experience working within the UN system or other intergovernmental organizations is a significant advantage.
- Expertise in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) methodologies, budget oversight, and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong familiarity with global development issues, the SDGs, and policy advocacy.
