Background
UNDP’s Istanbul Regional Hub serves as the advisory hub for the region, providing policy and programmatic support to UNDP’s development activities in Europe and the CIS region. The Hub’s Communications team explores the use of communications and social media to increase the effectiveness of programming, engage external views, and foster dialogue on key development challenges.
We are seeking a Communications Intern who will provide technical expertise to boost the visibility of UNDP Eurasia’s online platforms and provide analytics reports to assess our digital performance. Additionally, the intern will support our website, social media presence, and handle media and graphic design tasks as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will report to the Regional Communications Analyst and will be expected to:
- Support the creation and uploading of content for the UNDP Regional website.
- Create materials for social media channels, including Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Assist in organizing key events and communication opportunities, such as regional conferences and report launches.
- Monitor the latest social media trends and apply knowledge to enhance outreach.
- Research and apply SEO and marketing tactics.
- Compile and report analytics.
- Prepare weekly roundups and propose relevant content for Eurasia channels.
- Undertake tasks related to video, graphic design, web design, and web content.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application:
- Enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
- Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
- Graduated with a university degree in a relevant discipline (digital marketing, web management, graphic design, social media, communication) within one year of the application.
- Enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program.
Experience:
- Experience in website management, content creation, and digital communications is preferred.
- Experience with web-based applications, basics of HTML, and video/photo editing and design software is preferred.
- Experience working with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and a good understanding of web metrics and analytics reporting is preferred.
Language:
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
- Knowledge of Russian and/or Turkish is an asset.
Additional Information
Financial Issues:
- Internships within the UN system are subject to conditions that the applicant must be familiar with before signing the internship agreement.
- Interns will receive stipends according to UN rules and regulations starting January 2020.
- Any further costs associated with the internship must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution, or government, or by the student.

Conditions:
- UNDP accepts interns for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months.
- UNDP does not accept responsibility for costs arising from accidents, illness, or death during the internship.
- Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in an official capacity.
- Interns are responsible for arranging their own visas and residence documents.
Subsequent Employment:
The Internship Programme is not intended to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. There should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.
