Introduction

Based in Panama City, Panama, this role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the elimination of discrimination against women and girls and the achievement of gender equality in the region. The successful candidate will provide substantive support to the Regional Director, assisting in coordination, communication, partnership development, and programme implementation.

Empower Women: Special Assistant Position with UN Women
Organizational Context
In the Americas & Caribbean Region, UN Women operates through its Regional Office in Panama City and 10 Country Offices, along with one Multi-Country Office and programmatic presence in five countries. The Special Assistant will work closely with the Regional Director to support the effective functioning of the Regional Office, providing coordination, technical assistance, and strategic guidance on gender equality initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordination and Facilitation Support:
- Assist the Regional Director in interactions with UN Women Representatives, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Maintain records of meetings and ensure timely follow-up on action items.
- Provide technical support on institutional partnerships and regional integration mechanisms.
- Technical Support on Programme Implementation:
- Review and recommend improvements to annual work plans to align with programme goals.
- Support the implementation of results-based management approaches.
- Provide training on results-based management to Country Offices and Programme Presence Offices.
- Media Engagement and Communication:
- Manage the Regional Director’s media relations, including drafting press statements and coordinating interviews.
- Develop communication plans and outreach strategies to promote UN Women’s initiatives.
- Monitor press coverage and prepare reports on media activities.
- Partnership Development:
- Draft cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding with partner institutions.
- Coordinate fundraising strategies and support resource mobilization efforts.
- Identify opportunities for programmatic cooperation and develop partnerships aligned with UN Women’s goals.
- Other Duties:
- Perform any other official duties and special assignments as requested by the Regional Director.

Required Skills and Experience
- Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in International Relations, Communications, Public Administration, or related field. A first-level university degree with additional experience may be accepted.
- Experience: At least five years of experience in international organizations, with a focus on gender equality and communications. Experience in results-based management and resource mobilization is required.
- Languages: Fluency in English and Spanish is required. Proficiency in French and/or Portuguese is an advantage.
