Background & Job Description

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is a leading organization supporting international development projects worldwide. Through its Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains Initiative (SASI), GIZ works to enhance the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of global agricultural supply chains.

This paid traineeship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in communications, stakeholder engagement, and project management within an international development context. Trainees will support the Cooperations team in executing communication strategies, organizing events, managing social media, and assisting in the implementation of the Due Diligence Fund, a funding competition for sustainable agriculture initiatives.

The position is based in Bonn, Germany, and offers valuable exposure to global sustainability efforts, corporate responsibility, and international cooperation.

Tasks

1. Communications & Public Relations

  • Research, write, and edit content for the official website, monthly newsletter, and LinkedIn.
  • Assist in developing information materials and coordinating with external service providers.
  • Handle public relations inquiries and contribute to internal communications strategies.

2. Project Management Support

  • Support the Due Diligence Fund’s project selection process, including evaluating applications and assisting applicants.
  • Document learning experiences from completed projects.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and meeting minutes for internal and external stakeholders.

3. Event & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Assist in the organization of networking events, stakeholder meetings, and training sessions.
  • Support coordination between government agencies, private sector partners, and civil society organizations.
  • Contribute to planning training sessions on sustainable agricultural supply chains.

4. Administrative & Organizational Support

  • Learn about GIZ’s internal processes and workflows.
  • Assist in data management, documentation, and daily operational tasks.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • Enrolled in or recently completed a Master’s degree (within the past six months) in Political Science, Communication, Social Sciences, International Development, or related fields.

Experience

  • Initial experience in communications, public relations, or project management through internships, training programs, or voluntary work.
  • Background in international cooperation, sustainability, or corporate responsibility is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with BMZ partner countries through study trips, exchange programs, or internships is preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with experience in content creation, social media management, and event organization.
  • Knowledge or strong interest in sustainable agriculture, supply chains, and corporate sustainability.
  • Excellent command of German and English (fluency required); knowledge of Spanish or French is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset with adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced environment.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a university program, enrolled in a continuing education program that includes an internship, or have completed their studies within the last six months.
