Background & Job Description
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global organization dedicated to eradicating poverty, reducing inequalities, and supporting sustainable development. As part of this mission, the Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (ICPSD) collaborates with the SDG AI Lab to leverage digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), to drive positive social change.
The Frontier Tech Leaders (FTL) Program is a key initiative under this effort, aiming to train young professionals in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) on emerging technologies. The program, implemented in Angola, is tailored toward sustainable tourism development and includes technical boot camps, mentorship programs, and digital business incubation activities.
As a Course Guide Fellow, you will support AI, ML, and NLP training initiatives, facilitate online learning communities, and contribute to innovative tech-based solutions for sustainable development. This is a full-time, remote fellowship with a six-month contract duration, offering an excellent opportunity for professionals passionate about teaching, AI development, and digital transformation.
Tasks
1. Supporting Frontier Tech Leaders Training Component (50%)
- Plan and develop course materials for Machine Learning Bootcamps.
- Deliver online training sessions in Portuguese, covering AI, ML, and NLP concepts.
- Conduct interactive learning sessions and provide one-on-one mentorship.
- Organize virtual office hours to address participant inquiries.
- Monitor and evaluate learners’ progress through assessments and reports.
2. Engaging with the Portuguese-Speaking Community (30%)
- Organize and moderate online community events in Portuguese.
- Support the establishment of Portuguese-speaking AI/ML communities.
- Foster interactive discussions and knowledge sharing within the network.
- Provide continuous engagement strategies to ensure program retention.
3. AI/ML/NLP-Based Digital Solutions for Sustainable Development (10%)
- Design and implement AI-driven capstone projects and hackathons.
- Develop machine learning models using structured and unstructured Big Data.
- Utilize Python, TensorFlow, and Scikit-Learn for AI/ML model development.
- Integrate GIS and NLP technologies to enhance digital innovation.
- Deploy data pipelines and quality control measures for AI applications.
4. General Administrative and Technical Support (10%)
- Participate in virtual conferences, meetings, and knowledge-sharing events.
- Assist in curriculum development and resource creation.
- Draft reports, case studies, and research briefs on AI and ML applications.
- Provide technical assistance to the UNDP Technical Specialist.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field is required.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field is an advantage.
- Additional AI/ML certifications (e.g., Stanford’s Machine Learning Specialization by Andrew Ng) are highly desirable.
Experience
- Proficiency in Python programming for AI, ML, and NLP applications.
- Hands-on experience with TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, Pandas, and NLTK.
- Familiarity with software development tools (Git, GitHub) and cloud-based AI platforms.
- Experience in teaching, coaching, or mentoring in technology-related subjects.
- Strong background in community engagement and event organization.
- Demonstrated ability to develop AI-driven digital solutions for social impact initiatives.
