Career Opportunity: Research Assistant at IARC/WHO

Description of Duties

Under the supervision of the Deputy Branch Head and senior scientific staff, the Research Assistant will:

  1. Assist in designing, implementing, documenting, and maintaining complex database architectures using appropriate IT solutions.
  2. Support the design, implementation, documentation, and maintenance of data capture systems (paper-based, online, mobile) using suitable software.
  3. Periodically update and manipulate large databases to ensure data validity, completeness, and internal consistency.
  4. Set up and monitor data flow from collaborating centers, including merging data and performing quality control checks.
  5. Establish digital solutions for information collection in fieldwork studies, monitor data quality, prepare data for statistical analyses, and implement statistical calculations.
  6. Document activities related to data processing and analyses regularly.
  7. Serve as the data steward for the ENV Branch, overseeing IT usage within the branch and performing related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Essential: Graduation from secondary school or equivalent, with subsequent training (BTS, DUT or equivalent) in bioinformatics, life sciences, computer science/programming, statistics, or related field.
  • Desirable: University degree in bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, or related field.

Professional Experience

  • Essential: Minimum three years’ experience in statistical/computer analysis.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience using statistical packages and databases.
    • Programming data collection applications.
    • Background in epidemiology or medical science.

Language Skills

  • Essential: Expert knowledge of English.
  • Desirable: Intermediate knowledge of French.

Functional Skills and Knowledge

  • Familiarity with software such as Stata or R for statistics and Microsoft SQL Server for data management.
  • Proficiency in standard office software for data presentation and reporting.
  • Understanding of IT solutions for research and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.

Remuneration

  • Fixed remuneration of EUR 3,396 per month (net of income tax).
  • Benefits include leave entitlements and allowances for dependent family members.
  • Employment status is that of an international civil servant.
