Background & Job Description
The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) is a leading Canadian think tank focused on Canada’s relations with Asia. The Canada-Asia Young Professionals Fellowship Program is designed to cultivate the next generation of Canadian leaders and experts in Canada-Asia relations. This non-resident fellowship provides a platform for current graduate students and young professionals to deepen their understanding of Asia’s growing strategic importance and contribute to the ongoing dialogue about Canada’s engagement with the region. Through virtual sessions and an in-person retreat, fellows will analyze key issues, connect with leading thinkers, and enhance their analytical and communication skills in an international context.
Tasks
Fellows will engage in a curriculum focused on contemporary Asia and Canada-Asia relations, with an average weekly commitment of approximately three hours. Key activities include:
- Participating in twice-monthly, 60-minute virtual meetings (with breaks during major holidays).
- Engaging in Q&A sessions with experts.
- Participating in group discussions on key issues and debates.
- Attending workshops to sharpen written and oral communication skills related to Canada-Asia analysis.
- Attending a two-day in-person retreat in Vancouver in early May 2026 for networking and direct engagement with APF Canada staff and stakeholders.

Qualifications
Education and Certification
Applicants should hold a degree in political science, international relations, law, business, economics, Asian Studies, or a related program. Current graduate students are also eligible.
Experience
Ideal candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, aged 22 to 30 at the start of the fellowship (approximately September 16, 2025). They should have a demonstrated interest in contemporary Asia and/or the Canada-Asia relationship through coursework, professional or volunteer experience, or lived experience. Availability for the virtual meetings and the in-person retreat in Vancouver is essential. APF Canada actively encourages applications from young people of all backgrounds, including diverse racial, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds, sexual and gender identities, and abilities.

This nine-month, non-resident fellowship program runs from mid-September 2025 to June 2026. The cohort will consist of up to 20 fellows.
