Tasks
As an Intern – Information Communication and Technologies, you will be expected to perform a wide array of tasks related to IT support and systems administration. Below are the primary duties and responsibilities for this internship position:
1. IT Support and Troubleshooting
- Assist in troubleshooting computer hardware and software issues, providing timely resolutions to ensure operational efficiency.
- Provide end-user support for both hardware and software-related issues through various communication channels such as email, MS Teams, Skype for Business, and the ticketing system.
- Set up and configure computers, laptops, and mobile devices to ensure they are ready for use by staff members.
2. Teleconference and Video Conference Support
- Set up and configure teleconference and video conference meetings using platforms like MS Teams, Cisco Webex, and Zoom to facilitate seamless virtual communication.
- Provide real-time technical support during meetings, ensuring that all participants have a smooth experience with minimal technical issues.
3. Service Management Support
- Contribute to the improvement of the ICT Division’s Service Management capabilities by assisting with the definition of processes and drafting guidelines in line with ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) standards.
- Assist in the implementation of IT governance recommendations, ensuring compliance with best practices in ICT service delivery.
4. End-User Support and Ticketing System Management
- Open, track, resolve, and close IT support requests in the ticketing system, ensuring issues are documented and resolved in a timely manner.
- Respond promptly to ad hoc end-user support requests, providing effective solutions to technical problems raised by users.
5. Collaborative Tasks and Team Support
- Work closely with the ICT staff and other stakeholders to provide general technical assistance, ensuring the smooth operation of the Court’s ICT infrastructure.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to improve overall IT processes and systems used within the organization.
6. Ad-Hoc ICT Tasks
- Assist with any additional tasks that may arise in the course of supporting the ICT Division’s ongoing projects and operational requirements.
- Learn about and gain exposure to various aspects of the Court’s ICT needs, including network management, data storage, and security protocols.

Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Minimum Qualification: The candidate must have completed a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Information Technology or a related field.
- Preferred Qualification: Enrollment in or recent completion of a Master’s program in Information Technology or a related field is considered advantageous.
Experience
- No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, any previous experience in IT support, systems administration, or related fields will be considered an asset.
- A demonstrated keen interest in ICT, particularly in the context of the United Nations and international law, is required.
Skills and Competencies
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with basic ICT troubleshooting, computer hardware/software setup, and telecommunication platforms (MS Teams, Zoom, Webex, etc.) is beneficial.
- Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively in English or French, the two official working languages of the ICJ.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, maintaining a respectful and collaborative working environment.
- Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English or French is essential, and knowledge of Dutch or other UN languages is an advantage.
