Background & Job Description
Code for Africa (CfA), in collaboration with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is offering four fully funded Media Sentinel Fellowships for grassroots researchers in Southern Africa. The fellowship aims to strengthen information integrity and protect democratic principles, focusing on climate and LGBTQ+ issues in Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
Selected fellows will work part-time for six months with CfA’s forensic investigation team, iLAB, to track and disrupt coordinated information manipulation and interference (IMI) efforts online. Fellows will help build early warning systems based on inauthentic behaviour on platforms like Facebook, Telegram, WhatsApp, and X (formerly Twitter).
Tasks
- Monitor and report on coordinated inauthentic behaviour (CIB) and information manipulation within your country.
- Analyse data from CfA’s threat actor mapping projects.
- Participate in weekly one-hour virtual meetings.
- Collaborate with CfA’s forensic investigations team and international mentors.
- Assist in the development of early warning alerts.

Qualifications
Education and Certification

Experience
- Strong expertise in social media listening, analysis, and cross-platform coordination.
