As part of its ongoing efforts to empower the next generation of leaders in sustainable resource management, UNU-INRA is seeking a Programme Support and Research Officer (PSA) to join their dynamic team in Accra, Ghana. Tasks
Programme Management
The Programme Support and Research Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the planning, implementation, and monitoring of UNU-INRA’s programs. This includes:
- Assisting in the coordination of research projects, capacity-building initiatives, and policy translations.
- Facilitating communication with external stakeholders such as researchers, policymakers, and development partners.
- Supporting management in the development of institutional growth plans and fostering coordination with stakeholders.
- Preparing reports, briefing materials, and policy recommendations for internal and external audiences.
- Organizing and assisting in the preparation of webinars, conferences, workshops, and other knowledge-sharing events.
- Identifying funding opportunities and contributing to grant writing and proposal development efforts.
- Ensuring all programs align with UNU-INRA’s mission and the broader goals of the United Nations.
Research Responsibilities
The Programme Support and Research Officer will also be involved in conducting research activities that support the institute’s key initiatives. Tasks include:
- Supporting research on gender and natural resource management (NRM) issues.
- Assisting in the design of gender-relevant metrics to track and evaluate projects focused on gender outcomes.
- Organizing and compiling research information from various sources for reports, studies, and briefings.
- Generating statistical reports and assisting in the creation of presentation materials using relevant technologies.
Gender Mainstreaming
A significant aspect of the role is to ensure gender considerations are integrated into all UNU-INRA programs. Responsibilities include:
- Acting as the gender focal point within UNU-INRA and contributing to the broader UNU gender focal points group.
- Promoting gender equality in policies, programs, and initiatives.
- Developing gender-sensitive indicators and advocating for gender-inclusive budgeting and resource allocation in project planning.
- Providing technical support on gender-related issues, including conducting training sessions and raising awareness among staff and stakeholders.
Administrative Support
The Programme Support and Research Officer will also provide essential administrative assistance, including:
- Organizing meetings, events, and workshops, including managing reservations and logistical support.
- Handling procurement activities, sourcing, solicitation, and managing vendor relations.
- Assisting with human resource functions, particularly in recruitment and ensuring smooth operations in collaboration with the UNU Human Resource Office.
Monitoring and Evaluation
The officer will work alongside the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer to strengthen UNU-INRA’s evaluation processes, supporting:
- The tracking of project milestones to assess performance.
- The coordination of project evaluations and ensuring that evidence-based decisions inform program adjustments.
- Contributing to sustainability and program effectiveness in the long term.

Qualifications
Education and Certification
- A master’s degree in administration, social sciences, or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree with additional work experience will also be considered.
Experience
- At least two years of relevant experience with a master’s degree or four years with a bachelor’s degree in administration, research, or program management, ideally in an international organization.
- Strong administrative skills, including managing workflows, schedules, and documentation.
- Experience conducting research, literature reviews, and data analysis, with a focus on natural resources and gender issues.
- Proficiency in preparing complex reports, communications, and presentations.
- Knowledge of UN administrative regulations and experience with UN software (e.g., Quantum) is an advantage.
- Experience in project coordination, ensuring the timely delivery of objectives within budget.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- Proficiency in another UN official language is a plus.
Additional Information
Remuneration
The successful candidate will be employed under a national Personnel Service Agreement (PSA) contract. The annual net salary for this role is in the range of USD 27,600 to USD 32,832, depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. Benefits include 30 days of annual leave and access to a health insurance scheme.
Duration of Contract
The initial contract is for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and institutional requirements. The maximum duration of a PSA contract with UNU is six years, with a mandatory retirement age of 65 for PSA holders.
