Key Responsibilities
- Research
The incumbent will engage in advanced research in Mathematics, specifically focused on Dynamical Systems. They will analyze complex problems in areas like Topological Dynamics, Continuum Theory, and Ergodic Theory. - Program Coordination and Training
In addition to conducting research, the Associate Research Officer will assist in organizing seminars and topical meetings in the field of their expertise. They will also contribute to the coordination of various scientific programs at ICTP. - Scientific Mentoring
The role includes mentoring visiting scientists, particularly those from developing countries, assisting them in their research activities, and fostering international collaboration. - Other Responsibilities
The incumbent may be required to undertake additional tasks as necessary to ensure the success of the section’s work.

Qualifications
Education
- A PhD/doctoral degree in Mathematics, specifically in Topological Dynamical Systems, or a related field.
Experience
- 1-2 years of relevant scientific research experience in Theoretical Mathematics.
- A strong record in conducting research related to Topological Dynamics, Continuum Theory, and Ergodic Theory.
- Ability to conduct independent research with minimal supervision.
Skills
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage workload peaks.
- Diplomacy in dealing with staff and visitors from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with proficiency in English.
- Advanced computer skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in an international research environment or a scientific organization.
- Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is a plus.
