Associate Development Coordination Officer
Organizational Setting and Reporting:
This position is situated in the DCO regional office for the Arab States (roAS) and entails a dual reporting line to the Coordination Officer leading the Coordination Office in Gaza and the roAS Team Leader. Associate Development Coordination Officer
Responsibilities:
Under delegated authority, the Associate Development Coordination Officer, Programme Communications and Advocacy, will be tasked with the following duties: Associate Development Coordination Officer
- Monitoring and Analysis in Gaza:
- Provide substantive support for monitoring and analyzing socio-economic developments in Gaza, including key economic sectors, public services, and trade.
- Monitor access and movement, humanitarian challenges, and socio-economic conditions in Gaza. Associate Development Coordination Officer
- Identify and analyze development challenges and opportunities, contributing to the formulation of strategies, policies, key messages, and advocacy initiatives.
- Inter-agency Coordination in Gaza:
- Monitor and report on CU/RCO and UNCT development and socio-economic programs in Gaza.
- Offer substantive support to the Resident Coordinator, UN Country Team, and Programme Management Team.
- Provide Secretariat support to the UN Gaza Team when operational.
- Maintain an effective information management system for UN development programming in Gaza. Associate Development Coordination Officer
- Support to UNCT OPT Assessments Task Force:
- Track UN and other assessments on the Gaza conflict and its impact.
- Provide substantive and secretariat support to the UNCT OPT Assessment Task Force.
- Support the Rapid Damage Needs Assessment process, including data gathering.
- Advise on and contribute to the design and implementation of post-conflict reconstruction and recovery strategies in Gaza. Associate Development Coordination Officer
- Support to DCO Regional Office for Arab States (roAS):
- Assist roAS in general coordination tasks, including meeting preparation and follow-up actions.
- Monitor and analyze regional developments, providing timely reports for decision-making.
- Support the organization and facilitation of regional meetings, workshops, and conferences.
- Aid in maintaining information systems for accurate data collection, analysis, and dissemination. Associate Development Coordination Officer

Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communications, journalism, business or public administration, sustainable development, social sciences, political science, human rights, education, or related area. Work Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in program communications and advocacy or partnership development in the context of development cooperation or related areas. Experience in analyzing political, economic, and social challenges is desirable. Experience in contributing to the development of strategic products for international audiences, including donors, is also desirable. Associate Development Coordination Officer
Languages: English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, English and Arabic are the working languages, and oral and written fluency in both is required.
Assessment: Evaluation may include an assessment exercise followed by a competency-based interview.
Special Notice: This position is temporarily available for 6 months until June 2024. If the selected candidate is a UN Secretariat staff member, it will be administered as a temporary assignment.
