South African National Parks (SANParks) is dedicated to the conservation of South Africa’s biodiversity and heritage. As part of its commitment to community support and development, SANParks offers an External Bursary Programme. This program aims to benefit young individuals, particularly those living in communities neighboring National Parks, by funding their full-time undergraduate studies at accredited public institutions in South Africa. The bursaries cover various fields crucial to SANParks’ mandate, promoting both academic excellence and community upliftment.
Tasks
The core “task” for bursary recipients is to successfully complete their academic studies in one of the supported fields. This involves:

Qualifications
Education and Certification
Applicants must be:
- Currently in Matric or have successfully completed Matric.
- Studying or intending to study towards an undergraduate full-time National Diploma or Degree at an accredited public institution of Higher Education in South Africa (University, University of Technology, or TVET college).
- If currently studying, you must have passed all your registered courses.
Experience
No prior work experience is required. The bursary targets aspiring youth who demonstrate academic merit and a commitment to their chosen field of study.
Additional Information
This is a comprehensive bursary award for the 2026 academic year. Selection is based on academic performance, with preference given to women, individuals living with disabilities, and designated groups. Successful candidates will be contacted by January 30, 2026.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years old.
- Must reside in communities near National Parks.
- Must be studying or intend on studying in fields including, but not limited to:
- Environmental Sciences (Nature Conservation, Environmental Management, Green Energy, Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Development, Game Ranch Management)
- Social Sciences (Community Development, Economic Development, Socio-Economic Development, related Development studies)
- Tourism (Hospitality Management, Resort Management, Tour Guide, Events and Conference Management)
Required Application Documents (submit clear certified copies via email):
- Certified copy of ID document.
- Certified copy of Matric certificate or latest Matric report.
- Certified copy of most recent academic record (if currently studying).
- Acceptance letter from your tertiary institution (on institution’s letterhead).
- Proof of address.
- Motivational letter (stating why you need the bursary and your field of study).
- Comprehensive updated Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Affidavit showing income is less than the threshold (if receiving a social grant).
