The African Union (AU) 2025 Internship Program is now accepting applications from young Africans for a fully immersive professional experience. Open to students and recent graduates under 32, this program offers a chance to work directly with the AU in Ethiopia or various directorates.

Background & Internship Description
The African Union (AU), headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is a Pan-African organization dedicated to promoting unity, development, and peace across the continent. As part of its efforts to cultivate future leaders and professionals, the AU has launched its 2025 Internship Program for citizens of its Member States.
This full-time internship provides young Africans with an exceptional opportunity to gain professional experience and contribute to the Union’s work. The internship enables participants to develop practical skills, strengthen their understanding of Pan-African institutions, and build lasting international networks.
Interns will be placed in one of several departments across the AU, including Peace and Security, Infrastructure and Energy, Education, Legal Counsel, Women and Youth, and many more.
Tasks
Interns will provide technical and administrative support to AU departments, assisting in the planning, coordination, and execution of core activities. Responsibilities may include:
- Conducting research and preparing reports
- Supporting meetings and official events
- Drafting and reviewing documents
- Assisting with project implementation
- Providing support to communication teams
- Contributing to data analysis and policy development

Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Currently enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree or have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field
- Must be a national of an AU Member State
Experience
- No prior work experience is required
- Applicants should be fluent in at least one AU working language (English, French, Arabic, or Portuguese)
Other Requirements
- Must be under the age of 32 at the time of selection
- Demonstrated high moral conduct and integrity
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and online collaboration platforms
Additional Information
- Duration: Three (3) months, renewable once
- Location: African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa or remote/assigned departments
- Financial Support: Interns are not financially compensated. Travel, accommodation, and living costs are the responsibility of the intern
- Insurance: Interns must have valid medical and travel insurance throughout the internship period
