AFGRI is offering a fully structured 3-year Apprenticeship Programme designed for matriculants in South Africa who are eager to gain hands-on training as Tractor Mechanics or Earthmoving Technicians. The program includes formal training, distance learning, and extensive workplace exposure, aimed at developing participants into qualified professionals.
This opportunity is only open to matriculants for now, with future intakes for all other applicants scheduled for August and September. No prior experience is required, making this a valuable entry-level opportunity.
Apprentices sign a 3-year contract, including a 6-month probation period, with the potential for full qualification. Training is fully sponsored by AFGRI — failed modules must be redone at the applicant’s expense.
Tasks
- Receive training to become a qualified Tractor or Earthmoving Mechanic/Technician
- Perform repairs and maintenance on mechanical equipment
- Conduct stock control and inventory checks
- Deliver excellent customer service
- Carry out general workplace duties
- Attend Saturday classes and participate in distance learning where required
- Complete product-specific training with John Deere and other suppliers

Qualifications
Education and Certification
Minimum academic requirements include:
- Valid Matric Certificate with:
- Mathematics (Not Maths Literacy) or Technical Mathematics (Passed)
- Physical Science or Technical Science (Passed)
- Engineering Graphics and Design (Passed)
OR
- N2 Certificate with:
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Diesel Trade Theory
- One of the following: Industrial Electronics, Engineering/Technical Drawing, Motor Trade Theory
Applicants without N2 may complete the required subjects through AFGRI-sponsored education.
