The Opportunity
As the Research Manager (quantitative), you will play a pivotal role in leading, delivering, and supporting high-quality research initiatives focused on Plan International’s priority areas. Collaborating with members of the research team, MER Specialists from over 75 Programme Countries, and external consultants, you will contribute to shaping our research and evaluation agenda. Your efforts will align with Plan International’s Global Strategy objectives at the international, country, and regional levels.
Working closely with the Director of Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) and the Head of Research, you will ensure adherence to MERL Policy and Standards. Additionally, you will spearhead research projects to support programs, advocacy, and fundraising efforts, particularly focusing on quantitative study design, analysis, and reporting. Your responsibilities will also include analyzing Plan International’s sponsorship dataset, which encompasses over 1 million sponsored children.

The Individual
We are seeking a candidate who possesses the following qualifications and attributes:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in research methods or development studies preferred.
- Demonstrable experience in quantitative analysis of large datasets and design of complex surveys.
- Proficiency in data analysis software such as STATA, Nvivo, or Dedoose, along with knowledge of research operations, principles, and practices.
- Strong understanding of international development issues, with prior experience in the field.
- Excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration in multicultural environments and across different time zones.
- Integrity, honesty, and a commitment to upholding the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women.
- Experience in research ethics and data collection with children and vulnerable populations.
- Fluency in English, coupled with exceptional writing skills for research and communication purposes.

Location and Type of Role
This role is ideally based in the UK, employed from the Global Hub for Plan International in Woking, Surrey. However, consideration will be given to other locations where Plan International has offices, provided that candidates have the pre-existing right to work and live in those countries. Hybrid or remote working arrangements are available.
Duration and Reporting
The position is a 1-year fixed-term contract, covering maternity leave. The Research Manager (quantitative) will report to the Head of Research.
Salary and Benefits
Details regarding salary and benefits will be provided to applicants during the recruitment process, tailored to their location. As an indication, if based in the UK, the salary would be circa £42,000.
