The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations works toward transforming agrifood systems for better production, nutrition, environment, and livelihoods. FAO’s Subregional Office for the Caribbean (SLC) supports policies and projects that address food security, agriculture, fisheries, and rural development in 13 Caribbean countries.

The selected consultant will support the FISH-ADAPT project, a Green Climate Fund initiative in Saint Lucia, focused on improving fisheries safety, climate resilience, ecosystem health, and income diversification for over 10,000 direct beneficiaries. The project also positively impacts broader sectors such as tourism and hospitality while strengthening ecosystems.

Role & Responsibilities

The Communications Specialist will report to the Fisheries and Aquaculture Officer and the Lead Technical Officer of the FISH-ADAPT project. Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and implementing outreach and communication strategies for the project.
• Conducting stakeholder analysis and creating tailored messaging and communication materials.
• Drafting press articles, web notes, bulletins, and other public content.
• Documenting success stories, case studies, and project outputs.
• Managing social media content in line with FAO and GCF standards.
• Supervising the production of print, digital, and multimedia materials.
• Supporting event coverage, knowledge sharing, and capacity building for local communication focal points.
• Ensuring compliance with FAO communication policies, guidelines, and clearance processes.

Minimum Requirements for FAO Home-Based Consultancy Jobs 2025

• Education: Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field. Bachelor’s degree holders must have two additional years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience: At least 5 years in communications, content creation, and stakeholder engagement. Experience with fisheries, UN systems, or environmental projects is an asset.
• Skills: Proficiency in video, photography, audio production, Microsoft Office, Adobe design tools (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), and social media management.
• Language: Working knowledge of English.
