Amnesty International South Africa (AISA) is part of a global human rights movement focused on protecting and promoting human rights in South Africa. AISA conducts independent research, campaigns, and advocacy to address national and regional human rights challenges.

The organization is recruiting researchers who will lead the development and implementation of an evidence-based research strategy, contributing to the broader mission of Amnesty International. Successful candidates will produce high-quality, timely research, analyze human rights trends, and provide actionable insights to support campaigns, media engagement, and organizational strategy.

Tasks for Remote Jobs With Amnesty International 2025

Key responsibilities include:

• Develop, implement, and manage a research strategy aligned with Amnesty International’s priorities in South Africa.
• Conduct independent research on human rights issues, producing reports, policy briefs, and other research-based materials.
• Gather information and evidence on human rights violations for use by campaigns, media, and advocacy teams.
• Conduct field and remote research, including interviews, fact-finding, and analysis of human rights concerns.
• Prepare security, political, and briefing notes for management and internal stakeholders.
• Represent AISA externally with governmental, intergovernmental, and civil society actors.
• Build and maintain relationships with partners, experts, and human rights networks.
• Monitor, investigate, and report on human rights developments to provide accurate, impartial, and timely analysis.
• Support the preparation of research materials for public dissemination and digital campaigns.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

• A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Law, Economics, Development, Human Rights, or related fields is required.
• An Honours or Master’s degree is advantageous.
• Knowledge of international human rights frameworks and standards is essential.

Experience

• At least 5 years of experience in research or similar roles, preferably within NGOs or international organizations.
• Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research, including interviewing witnesses and handling sensitive information.
• Proven ability to produce research outputs for diverse audiences, including reports, policy briefs, and digital materials.
• Familiarity with interdisciplinary research methods, participatory approaches, and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to communicate research findings clearly to internal teams, partners, and public audiences.
• Prior experience in human rights advocacy, legal research, or policy work is highly desirable.
