Applications Open: Scholar at Risk Fellowship 2026 at the C²DH. The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) is calling for applications for the Scholar at Risk Fellowship 2026. This two-month funded program is designed to support researchers who face risks such as harassment, violence, or displacement in their home countries. The fellowship offers €3,000 per month to cover accommodation, daily costs, travel, and insurance.

About the Scholars at Risk Fellowship

The Scholar at Risk Fellowship 2026 is hosted by the C²DH, the University of Luxembourg’s interdisciplinary research centre. The programme aims to create a safe academic environment for at-risk scholars, while also encouraging international collaboration in fields such as:

  • Contemporary History of Luxembourg
  • Contemporary History of Europe
  • Public History
  • Digital History and Historiography

The initiative follows the principles of the Scholars at Risk network, which defines at-risk scholars as individuals under threat of violence, harassment, imprisonment, or those affected by ongoing conflict in their countries.

Benefits of the 2026 Fellowship

  • Funding: €1,200 for accommodation + €1,800 for daily costs = €3,000 monthly
  • Duration: Two months in 2026
  • Location: Luxembourg or the Greater Region (residency required)
  • Facilities: Office space and institutional support provided by the University of Luxembourg
  • Activities: Present your research in seminars or colloquia and join one of the C²DH research departments

Who Can Apply?

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to scholars at risk, including those from conflict-affected regions such as Palestine and Sudan
  • Applicants must hold an academic background in history or related disciplines
  • Research focus can relate to any region globally but should ideally align with contemporary, public, or digital history
