Background & Job Description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is offering internship opportunities for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in humanitarian work. These internships are designed to provide practical exposure to assisting humanitarian immigrant clients in Boise. Each intern will be paired with an IRC staff member to support various programs aimed at improving the lives of refugees and displaced individuals.

Internships are conducted in-person at the IRC Boise office and cover multiple areas, including case management, adult education, and youth services. These opportunities are ideal for students and professionals seeking relevant experience in social work, education, or international studies.

Tasks

  • Assist with BSW and MSW case management.
  • Support adult education programs, including cultural orientation, job readiness, and financial coaching.
  • Help with youth services, including school enrollment and seasonal activities.
  • Participate in IRC operations and gain hands-on experience in humanitarian work.
  • Work closely with IRC staff to support program goals and provide client assistance.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • Open to students and graduates in fields such as BSW, MSW, International Studies, Bilingual Education, and related disciplines.

Experience

  • No prior work experience required, but applicants should have a passion for humanitarian work.
  • Ability to commit to at least 15 hours per week for 12 weeks.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.

Additional Information

  • Internship Type: Unpaid. University credit may be arranged.
  • Location: Boise, Idaho (In-person).
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with flexible hours.
  • Internship Cycles:
    • Fall (August-December): Applications open in February, interviews begin March 1.
    • Winter (January-May): Applications accepted February-September, interviews begin October 1.
    • Summer (June-August): Applications open in February, interviews begin April 1.
